Vaccinations Required to Attend In-Person Services & Events

Beloved of Emmanuel:

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to express themselves regarding yesterday’s (12/17/21) policy change regarding unvaccinated people attending services and events at Emmanuel. It is abundantly clear that in our attempt to be pastoral and welcoming to unvaccinated people in the upcoming holiday services we put the health and safety of the community at risk.

In order to best live out John Wesley’s principle of “do no harm,” it is now apparent to us, in light of your correspondence and recent data on variants and case rates, that we made the wrong decision for Emmanuel and in the wrong way. We sincerely apologize for that.

So effective immediately, our previous policy is back in place: “Emmanuel is happy to welcome fully vaccinated adults & accompanied children back into the Sanctuary for 9am traditional & 10:45am contemporary worship. All attendees must wear masks that cover both mouth and nose.”

Also, in the future, when policy decisions of this magnitude are made, particularly concerning COVID-19, we will be sure to seek a greater amount of congregational feedback beforehand. We have learned several things from this mistake and this is one of them.

As always, we continue to welcome feedback and dialogue. We invite you to respond by emailing the church office at with your questions or concerns. We know that with this decision and through this process we may have damaged or lost your trust in us. We are eager to build it back and hope you will give us the chance to do so.

Thank you for being a part of Emmanuel in this time. Know that we love and appreciate you.
