T-shirt Reusable Bags

T-shirt Reusable Bag Workshop
Sunday, January 26
2 – 4 p.m. – Fellowship Hall

Bring your favorite old t-shirt and turn it into a reusable shopping bag for your use. We’ll show you how to make both sew and no-sew bags. The no-sew version is perfect for youths to make. We will also make bags using donated t-shirts to give to those who can’t afford to buy reusable bags.  Bring your friends and family to have fun and make a reusable bag for yourself and others.

Please sign up at HERE if you can participate in this workshop.  We are in need of sewers with sewing machines. If you cannot participate in the workshop, but would like to help with this project at your convenience, please sign up at HERE and choose the “make at home” option.  Instructions for both sew and no-sew versions are HERE.

Mini-Challenge

T-shirt Collection & Cardboard Inserts

Almost 2 billion plastic bags are used every minute worldwide. The average plastic bag is used for just 12 minutes but takes about 450 years to break down — into tiny pieces that never go away. Howard County will impose a 5-cent fee on plastic bags given at checkout starting in October, so we want to turn old t-shirts into shopping bags to give to those who can’t afford to buy reusable bags. Donate your clean old t-shirts (L/M sizes work best) and sewing thread and place in marked collection boxes in the Narthex, Fellowship Hall and the Ministry Center carport. We are also collecting cardboard pieces to be used as bag bottom inserts. Please cut the pieces to 12 x 8 inches and place in the T-shirt collection bins.
