We are all discerning how to respond to a pandemic and making decisions based on the available information about how to do no harm.
As the staff of your church, we strive to practice wise and nimble leadership. In order to do no harm to the most vulnerable, we have made the difficult decision that Emmanuel UMC will be closed as of Sunday, March 15 for a period of at least two weeks. All scheduled activities are cancelled and the building will not be available for use.
We will reevaluate on Friday, March 27 and a decision will be made to see if the building will remain closed or will be reopened. Please check our website (www.EUMCLaurel.org) for the building’s status and latest information.
This Sunday, March 15, and next Sunday, March 22, at 9:00 AM, please join us via live stream for worship at https://www.eumclaurel.org/stream/. If you are unable to view the services at 9 AM, you can watch them, and all of our services, later by using the same link.
Similar to March Madness, staff will be leading worship to silent cheers from an empty sanctuary! This does not mean that you cannot interact with us! We will still have the Call to Worship, music, the Children’s Sermon, a shared Bible verse, Rev. Stephanie’s sermon, and even Joys and Concerns (which you can text to Rev. Kim during the service at 301-520-9219. Just please remember to include your name in the text, and if you want the joy/concern to be shared with everyone or just with the staff.) You may also send joys/concerns to Rev. Kim before the service at RevKim@EUMCLaurel.org. Again, be sure let her know with whom you would like to share.
Beginning next Monday, March 16, we will be holding EUMC Community Zoom gatherings every Monday through Friday for two weeks. (Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool that allows users to meet online.) During each these gatherings, one of our pastors will host a special session to help you continue to feel connected to Emmanuel. Look for more info coming soon, including topics and directions about how to use Zoom! We also plan to continue events like Bible Study and Financial Peace using Zoom.
We continue to be concerned about the most vulnerable among us. We will be creating a Sign-Up Genius so you can sign up to help by “adopting” members of our church family who may be among the most vulnerable. Look for another ENews Blast tomorrow with more information!
The Emmanuel Staff will be praying, and we ask for your prayers as we continue to make these difficult decisions.
God bless, and we love you!
