Laurel Winter Shelter – February 5 – 12, 2017
For one week each winter we open our hearts and doors to local homeless people when we host the Laurel Winter Shelter. We offer a warm place to sleep, hot food, warm showers, clean laundry, bag lunches, and transportation to and from Emmanuel. These are amenities most of us take for granted, but for one who is homeless, they are very hard to come by and greatly appreciated.
Emmanuel will once again be hosting the Laurel Winter Shelter (formerly known as Winterhaven) from Sunday, February 5 through Sunday, February 12, 2017.
This year we will only be hosting the men and we anticipate approximately 25 guests each evening for dinner and an overnight stay. We will need food and miscellaneous donations, drivers, servers, dish washers, door monitors, overnight chaperones and many hands to help make this a successful week for our guests.
One change from previous years:
This year we will have two volunteer opportunities in the kitchen. We will need dinner servers as well as dish washers. The dinner servers will arrive around 6:00 pm for dinner set up and serving. This job should be complete by approximately 8:00 pm. The dishwashers will arrive at approximately 7:30 pm and wash the dinner dishes. This job should be complete no later than 9:00 pm. Volunteers on a given evening are welcome to sign up for both kitchen slots or just one.
Emmanuel has done a fantastic job hosting the Winter Shelter for many years. We will need lots of volunteers next year to make this a successful week once again. Please consider donating either your time and/or one of the many items needed to keep the shelter running throughout the season by clicking on the sign-up below.
